Is Poetry Purpose?

Is there purpose in writing poetry?

I am supposed to have one,

Purpose that is.

But I did have one - and gave it up.

Purpose seems to be all about

what you can do for others.

No offers of reciprocation.

So I have given it up.

Poetry gives me my true voice

Not the careful, sensitive one,

the looking after others emotions one.

I have given that up.

Rage, ignorance, closed to debate.

The tenuous conversation pathway 

of being offended on others behalf.

We should all give it up.
